Oscar-nominated actor Rosamund Pike is set to make her debut at London’s National Theatre in 2025, starring in the world premiere of Inter Alia, a new play by Suzie Miller, the acclaimed playwright behind Prima Facie. Pike will take on the role of a British High Court judge grappling with conflicts in both her personal and professional life.
The production will reunite Miller with director Justin Martin, who previously worked with Jodie Comer on Prima Facie in the West End and on Broadway. Pike’s casting marks her return to the stage for the first time since starring in Hedda Gabler in 2010. Her last London appearance was opposite Judi Dench in Madame de Sade at the Donmar Theatre in 2009.
Inter Alia will be featured as part of the National Theatre’s 2025 season, which will also mark the final year for current director and co-chief executive Rufus Norris, who steps down in March 2025 after a decade at the helm. His successor, Indhu Rubasingham, is set to take over on 1st April. The play will run in the Lyttelton Theatre, with further details and casting to be announced.
Juliet Stevenson is also lined up to star in David Lan’s new play Land of the Living in the National’s 2025 lineup, while Stephen Sondheim’s last musical Here We Are will make its European debut at the Lyttelton in the spring. Directed by Joe Mantello, the production will feature original cast members Tracie Bennett, Denis O’Hare, and Rory Kinnear.
Other highlights of the 2025 season include a new adaptation of Michael Abbensetts’ 1978 comedy Alterations and the return of James Graham’s critically acclaimed Dear England, starring Michael Sheen. In his final press conference, Norris praised the National Theatre as a “creative powerhouse,” adding, “There is simply nowhere else like it on earth.”
