The 2024 IIFA Awards took place in Abu Dhabi on 28th September, celebrating the best of Indian cinema in a star-studded ceremony. The evening was filled with glamour, heartfelt speeches, and applause for remarkable cinematic achievements. One of the night’s biggest winners was Animal, which bagged the prestigious Best Film award. Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga and producer Bhushan Kumar accepted the honour on behalf of the team, marking a significant win for the film.
In the acting categories, Shah Rukh Khan emerged as Best Actor for his powerful performance in Jawan, a role that captivated audiences and critics alike. Rani Mukerji was awarded Best Actress for her portrayal of a fierce mother in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, continuing her legacy of impactful roles.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra won Best Director for 12th Fail, a biopic that tells the inspiring story of IPS officer Manoj Sharma, played by Vikrant Massey. The film’s narrative of resilience and determination struck a chord with audiences, cementing its place as one of the year’s most significant releases.
In supporting roles, Anil Kapoor took home the Best Supporting Actor award for his performance in Animal, while Shabana Azmi was named Best Supporting Actress for her role in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Bobby Deol’s menacing role in Animal earned him the award for Best Performance in a Negative Role.
The music of Animal also stood out, with Pritam, Vishal Mishra, and other composers winning Best Music Direction. Bhupinder Babbal was named Best Playback Singer (Male) for Arjan Vailly from Animal, while Shilpa Rao won Best Playback Singer (Female) for Chaleya from Jawan.
Hema Malini received the Outstanding Achievement in Indian Cinema award for her decades of contributions to the industry. Alizeh Agnihotri was recognized as Debutant of the Year. Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani bagged the award for Best Story, with writers Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan, and Sumit Roy being acknowledged for their creative efforts. The Best Lyrics award went to Siddharth Singh and Garima Wahal for the soulful song Satranga from Animal.
The IIFA 2024 was a grand three-day affair, starting on 27th September with IIFA Utsavam, which honoured the South Indian film industry. The main awards night took place on Day 2, followed by IIFA Rocks, a celebration of the music industry, hosted by Siddhant Chaturvedi and Abhishek Banerjee, on Day 3.
