Chucky’s reign of terror has come to a temporary halt. The horror series, based on the iconic film franchise, will not return for a fourth season on Syfy and USA Network, marking the end of its current run. The announcement comes four months after the second half of Season 3 aired its finale.

Despite hopes for a continuation, the show’s creator and executive producer Don Mancini had his pitch for a fourth season rejected. In April, Mancini expressed enthusiasm for more episodes, sparking the #RenewChucky campaign led by loyal fans rallying for the show’s return. However, today’s news is not the outcome they had hoped for.

“I’m heartbroken over the news that Chucky won’t be coming back for a fourth season but am so grateful for the killer three years we did have,” Mancini said in a statement. “I’d like to thank UCP/Syfy/Peacock/Eat the Cat, our awesome cast and Toronto-based crew — the best in the business — and finally, to our amazing fans, a big bloody hug. Your incredible #RenewChucky campaign really warmed Chucky’s cold heart. Chucky will return! He ALWAYS comes back,” it added.

The series’ cancellation also signals the end of Syfy’s higher-budget, original scripted productions, following the move of Resident Alien to USA Network. In the face of changing viewer habits and the cord-cutting era, Syfy has shifted its focus to Canadian and lower-budget productions like SurrealEstate and The Arc.

Initially launched by Syfy, Chucky was co-broadcast with USA Network to share production costs. USA has since revived its interest in scripted content, leaning on cost-effective “Blue Sky” procedurals similar to its former hits like Monk, Suits, and Psych. The upcoming Rainmaker, based on John Grisham’s novel, marks the network’s return to the format.

Season 3 of Chucky brought the infamous killer doll into the White House, where he became entangled with America’s First Family. The season followed the ongoing battle of Jake, Devon, and Lexy to stop Chucky while juggling teenage challenges. Meanwhile, Tiffany faced her own reckoning as the authorities closed in on her after the deadly events of last season.
