The 18th edition of GLAMOUR Women of the Year Awards 2024, sponsored by Samsung Galaxy Ring, was hosted in London on 1st October. The event celebrated women who have inspired, entertained, and empowered over the past year, bringing together stars from music, film, television, and sports who have used their influence to champion female empowerment.

The evening kicked off with a red carpet full of dazzling stars, followed by a comedic yet poignant opening from returning host Katherine Ryan. This marks Ryan’s fourth year as host, and she didn’t hold back, delivering a mix of humor and hard-hitting truths. “I love my current husband. He’s my best friend. In the way that a dog is man’s best friend,” she joked, before shifting to a more serious tone: “But what I’m getting at is that women deserve better than what we are receiving from men on a global scale.” Ryan went on to address the persistent issue of violence against women and the challenges facing feminism today, concluding with a rallying cry. “Plenty has been done, but there’s so much still to do. Tonight, we celebrate women who bravely push the envelope for continued change,” she said.

Deborah Joseph, GLAMOUR’s European Editorial Director, delivered an empowering speech, marking the occasion of her final year in the role. “Tonight marks the 18th year of these inspirational awards,” she said. “And it’s truly special to see so many brilliant women and friends of GLAMOUR in the room tonight.” Reflecting on the progress made in recent years, Joseph noted, “This is the first year no one has questioned the need for a women-only event… Maybe that’s because we all know that we’re nowhere near the equality we all wish for,” said Joseph.

As the night unfolded, honorees took to the stage to receive their awards, celebrating achievements across various industries. Simone Ashley, known for her role in Bridgerton, was honored as Gamechanging Actor, while Chlöe Bailey was named Musician of the Year. Francesca Amewudah-Rivers received the Theatre Actor Award for her powerful performance in Romeo and Juliet on the West End.

Olympic gold medalist Keely Hodgkinson, who triumphed in the 800 metres at this year’s Paris Olympics, was recognized for her outstanding athletic achievements. Cally Jane Beech was named Activist of the Year for her efforts with GLAMOUR’s Consent campaign, which focuses on fighting AI deepfake pornography. The Samsung Rising Star award was shared by Maddie Haynes, Ysabelle Salvanera, and Amelia Onuorah, who are making waves in their respective fields.

As the evening came to a close, Joseph reflected on her time at the helm of GLAMOUR: “Editing GLAMOUR has undoubtedly been a privilege and the job of a lifetime,” she said. “The GLAMOUR team works so incredibly hard to ensure that women’s lives are more equitable, safe, free — and of course — fun and glamorous.” The GLAMOUR Women of the Year Awards 2024 not only celebrated exceptional talent but also underscored the ongoing fight for gender equality, proving that these trailblazing women are leading the way to a brighter, more inclusive future.
