Ashley Hansen, the Global Press Secretary and Head of Communications for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, is stepping into the entrepreneurial spotlight with the launch of her own public relations firm, Three Gate Strategies. Hansen, who has been handling Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s communications for over two years, will continue to represent the royal couple while overseeing their international communications team.
The Duke and Duchess are fully on board with Hansen’s new venture, which was inspired by the high demand for her expert counsel from other prominent clients. With their support, she will continue to amplify their advocacy work and manage their business and creative projects.
Three Gate Strategies is named after a famous quote by the Persian poet Rumi, which means “Before you speak, let your words pass through three gates. Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind?” The Los Angeles-based firm will focus on communications and brand management, targeting distinguished individuals and organizations. Hansen’s client roster already includes high-profile figures from the entertainment, technology, and finance sectors.
Hansen has been instrumental in shaping the Duke and Duchess’s public image, building out their communications team with senior executives Kyle Boulia and Charlie Gipson, based in Los Angeles and London, respectively. Other key figures include longtime staff members Miranda Barbot, now VP of Programming and Media Operations, and Deesha Tank, Director of Communications.
Reflecting on her journey with the Sussexes, Hansen has played a crucial role in guiding the couple through major milestones, such as the release of their docuseries Harry & Meghan, Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, and significant royal events, including Queen Elizabeth II’s passing and King Charles III’s coronation.
Hansen’s impressive resume also includes stints as an anchor producer for Good Morning America, Head of Communications at Annapurna Pictures, UTA’s Director of Communications, and VP of Communications at Universal Filmed Entertainment Group.
Meghan Markle, The Duchess of Sussex, expressed her excitement for Hansen’s new chapter, said: “We are so proud of Ashley, especially as a female entrepreneur. We look forward to having her focused expertise on our business and creative projects and her continued oversight of our communications team. My husband and I are excited to be alongside Ashley as she builds something extraordinarily special with her firm.”
Hansen, reflecting on her continued collaboration with the Duke and Duchess, said, “I am incredibly grateful to The Duke and Duchess for their continued trust. Their unwavering support and belief in my new firm has been meaningful and is a testament to their leadership. I knew when they first hired me that they were giving me the opportunity of a lifetime and I couldn’t be happier to continue working together.”
