Meera Syal CBE, known for her versatility on stage and screen, is currently captivating audiences at London’s National Theatre, starring in A Tupperware of Ashes.

Syal, who studied English and Drama at Manchester University, has built an illustrious career. She received a What’s OnStage Award for her role in Shirley Valentine and earned a BAFTA nomination for the hit comedy series The Kumars at No. 42.

The award-winning actor and writer has an extensive theatre credit with the National Theatre include A Tupperware of Ashes, Behind the Beautiful Forevers, Rafta, Rafta…, and Peer Gynt. In the West End, Syal has graced the stage in iconic roles, starring in Romeo and Juliet at the Garrick, Landscape / A Kind of Alaska at the Harold Pinter Theatre, Miss Hannigan in Annie at the Piccadilly, Bombay Dreams at the Apollo Victoria, and Vagina Monologues both in the Ambassadors Theatre and in New York.

Syal’s distinguished theatre repertoire also includes performances as Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing for the Royal Shakespeare Company, Noises Off at the Lyric Hammersmith and the Garrick, as well as appearances in The Great Celestial Cow, Blood, Minor Complications, and Shirley Valentine at various prestigious venues. Her work with the Royal Court Theatre spans productions such as Serious Money, Echo, and If You Don’t Let Us Dream, We Won’t Let You Sleep.

On television, Meera Syal continues to shine with standout roles in The Wheel of Time, We Are Lady Parts, The Sandman, Back to Life, Broadchurch, and Doctor Who, among many others. She is also widely celebrated for her performances in multi-award-winning comedies The Kumars at No. 42 and Goodness Gracious Me. Syal’s filmography boasts an impressive list of films, including Yesterday, Paddington 2, The Almond and the Seahorse, Dr. Strange, Absolutely Anything, Scoop, and Anita and Me, based on her own novel.
