The popular children’s sci-fi adventure series Space Nova is set to return for a second season, offering 15 new episodes, each running for 24 minutes, according to Variety exclusive report. With this new installment, the total number of episodes will reach 41. Distributed internationally by ZDF Studios, the show will be available across the globe, excluding Australia and New Zealand, where it’s handled by the Australian Children’s Television Foundation (ACTF). The series is produced by SLR Productions.

Since its debut in 2021, Space Nova has attracted a wide audience, with buyers including Amazon (UK, Italy), Globosat (Brazil), HBO (Pacific), SVT (Sweden), and RTP (Portugal), among others. Targeted at 6- to 10-year-olds, the show has also made its mark on the international awards circuit, winning accolades like the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival in 2022 and the Australian Writer’s Guild Awards in 2020 and 2021. The series has also received nominations from events such as Cartoons on the Bay and Germany’s Prix Jeunesse.

Set in the year 2162, the series follows siblings Jet and Adelaide Nova as they embark on thrilling space missions with their scientist parents. Arne Lohmann, VP of junior content at ZDF Studios, praised the show’s widespread appeal, saying, “Space Nova has it all: endearing characters, great storytelling that captures the imagination, and superb animation.”

Suzanne Ryan, CEO of SLR Productions, shared her excitement for the new season, said, “The success of Space Nova has inspired us to craft an even more thrilling intergalactic adventure for our young audience.”

According to report, the second season picks up where the Novas left off, after their encounter with the alien Stardustians. Jet and Adelaide are now joined by Ziggy, a young Stardustian who arrives at Luna Port to learn about humans.

Co-produced by Giggle Garage and commissioned by ABC Australia, Space Nova is also financed by Screen Australia and ACTF.
