Dharmatic Entertainment, the digital arm of Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, has finalized a new romantic comedy with Netflix on board, featuring R. Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh in the lead roles, according to Peepingmoon.com report.
Directed by Vivek Soni, who previously helmed the well-received Meenakshi Sundareshwar, the film will explore an unconventional romance between an older man and a younger woman. This quirky love story has been penned by writers Radhika Anand and Jehan Handa and is slated to begin production at the end of October.
This new rom-com is another addition to Dharmatic’s partnership with Netflix, continuing their collaboration on numerous successful projects, including Guilty, Ajeeb Daastaans, Meenakshi Sundareshwar, and Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. The project marks the third joint venture in recent months, following the Konkona Sen Sharma-Pratibha Ranta film and Karan Johar’s upcoming airline-themed series, both currently in the pre-production phase.
For R. Madhavan, this film presents a return to his romantic hero roots after several years of exploring more unconventional roles. It also marks his second collaboration with Dharma Productions after his part in the upcoming Akshay Kumar-led biopic C. Shankaran Nair. In terms of his work with Netflix, Madhavan has previously starred in the series Decoupled and YRF’s The Railway Men.
Meanwhile, Fatima Sana Shaikh will be making her return to Dharmatic Entertainment after her last appearance in the anthology Ajeeb Daastaans. Her upcoming slate also includes Metro…In Dino with Anurag Basu and Ul Jalool Ishq with Vibhu Puri.
Dharmatic Entertainment’s prolific year continues with five releases already under its belt: Love Storiyaan (Amazon Prime), Showtime (Disney+ Hotstar), Ae Watan Mere Watan (Amazon Prime), Gyaarah Gyaarah (ZEE5), and Call Me Bae (Amazon Prime). Their next release, The Tribe, is set to drop on October 4 on Amazon Prime Video, followed by Daring Partners, a startup comedy starring Tamannah Bhatia and Diana Penty.
