Production has begun on “Song Sung Blue,” a new musical drama from Focus Features and Davis Entertainment. According to reports, the film began shooting on 14th October and stars Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson as a married couple who find new purpose in life by forming a Neil Diamond tribute band.
The movie, directed by Craig Brewer, is based on Greg Kohs’ 2008 documentary of the same name. It follows the true story of Mike and Claire Sardina, a Milwaukee couple who were struggling musicians until they became local legends as the duo “Lightning & Thunder.” Brewer’s adaptation will explore their journey, which borrows its name from Neil Diamond’s 1972 hit, “Song Sung Blue.”
Joining Jackman and Hudson in the ensemble cast are Michael Imperioli, Fisher Stevens, and Jim Belushi, alongside Ella Anderson, King Princess, Mustafa Shakir, and Hudson Hilbert Hensley.
“Song Sung Blue” is produced by John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment, with Erika Hampson and Greg Kohs serving as executive producers. Focus Features holds the worldwide distribution rights, with Universal Pictures International overseeing international distribution.
Both Jackman and Hudson have been showcasing their musical talents recently. Jackman, best known for his role as Wolverine, has embraced his musical side, announcing a 12-concert residency at Radio City Music Hall where he will perform hits from “The Boy From Oz,” “The Greatest Showman,” and “The Music Man.” Meanwhile, Hudson, who signed with Virgin Records earlier this year, is preparing to release her debut album “Glorious.” Commenting on her musical debut, Variety’s Chris Willman noted, “She could have credibly played a star and not just a groupie in ‘Almost Famous.’”
