Black Sheep Coffee is set to continue its rapid expansion in Edinburgh, with plans to open its latest branch on Lothian Road, replacing a former Starbucks at 123 Lothian Road. This new location will mark the coffee chain’s ninth outlet in the Scottish capital, further solidifying its footprint across the city.
According to planning documents, the site’s previous use as a coffee shop means “no change of use is required” for the new Black Sheep branch. The proposed refurbishments will focus on updates to the exterior signage and minor adjustments to the interior. Developers have confirmed that these “works are minor in nature.”
Black Sheep Coffee’s expansion in Edinburgh has been swift, with several new locations opening in recent months. The brand’s latest outlet follows the opening of a large branch in Haymarket in May and a 24/7 branch at Edinburgh Airport in late August, designed to cater to travelers with early morning or late-night flights.
Once opened, the Lothian Road store will join Black Sheep Coffee’s growing list of Edinburgh locations, including those at Edinburgh Airport, Shandwick Place, North Bridge, St. James Quarter, Haymarket, 95 Princes Street, George Street, and 25 Princes Street.
This latest opening reflects the coffee chain’s ambition to dominate Edinburgh’s coffee scene, offering an alternative to more traditional coffee brands and expanding its reach in the city’s bustling areas.
