The critically acclaimed series So Long, Marianne, which tells the captivating love story of Canadian singer and poet Leonard Cohen and Norwegian muse Marianne Ihlen, is set to reach new audiences across the Baltics and Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) following fresh distribution deals secured by Cineflix Rights, revealed Deadline report.

The eight-part drama, starring Alex Wolff as Cohen and Thea Sofie Loch Næss as Ihlen, has already premiered in Norway on NRK, Canada on Crave, Germany on ARD, and ITVX in the UK. Now, Czech TV, ERR (Estonia), HRT (Croatia), and TET (Latvia) have acquired the series. These deals follow previously announced agreements with Movistar Plus+ in Spain and SBS in Australia.

So Long, Marianne was largely filmed on the Greek island of Hydra, where Cohen and Ihlen lived in the 1960s. The series explores the bohemian lifestyle of the time, depicting the couple’s relationship alongside other artistic figures such as Australian writers Charmian Clift (Anna Torv) and George Johnston (Noah Taylor). The show delves into their world of free love, artistic expression, and the interpersonal rivalries that shaped their intertwined lives.

Produced by Redpoint Productions, Tanweer Productions, and C3 Media, the series has been gaining praise for its emotional depth and stunning locations. “So Long, Marianne is one of the most iconic love stories of the last century, set in one of the most beautiful locations in the world, and is getting rave reviews from the critics in all the territories it’s launched in so far,” said Lucy Rawson, VP of Sales at Cineflix Rights, who brokered the latest deals.

The project was produced by Ingeborg Klyve and Glenn Lund, and first premiered at Series Mania, where it quickly became a buzzworthy title.
