After a nearly decade-long break, So You Think You Can Dance is set to make a comeback in Poland, as per Deadline exclusive. The iconic dance competition show will return to TVN, where it had previously aired for nine successful seasons before its last broadcast in 2015.
This revival marks the first remake deal for the format since Sony Pictures Television (SPT) took over distribution rights following its acquisition of Industrial Media, the parent company of So You Think You Can Dance creator 19 Entertainment, in 2022.
TVN’s Director of Television Channels, Lidia Kazen, expressed excitement over the show’s return, said, “This iconic show has long been a cherished part of our programming, and we are eager to showcase the remarkable talent and creativity that our contestants will bring to the stage. We are confident that this revival will captivate both loyal fans and new viewers, and we look forward to witnessing the magic unfold once again.”
Laura St Clair, SVP International Formats at Sony Pictures Television, also shared her enthusiasm about the deal, saying: “It is fantastic to see So You Think You Can Dance returning to screens in Poland on TVN, where it enjoyed huge success in its original run. SYTYCD is an iconic format with legions of fans, and we are sure that the next generation of contestants there will make the revival a huge success once again.”
Poland was last home to the show’s main format, as well as the Next Generation Junior spin-off, which aired on public network TVP. Globally, So You Think You Can Dance has been produced in 32 countries, including the US, where it completed its 18th season earlier this year.
The announcement came during MIPCOM in Cannes, where Sony has been promoting its various formats and finished titles. Outgoing Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman Tony Vinciquerra, who delivered a keynote speech at the event, hinted at his future plans, teasing a move into private equity as he departs from Sony.
