Celebrated Hollywood producer Ashok Amritraj was awarded the IIFTC Global Indian Cinema Icon Award at the 11th India International Film Tourism Conclave (IIFTC) in Mumbai. Presented by legendary filmmaker Subhash Ghai, the award recognizes Amritraj’s exceptional contributions to international cinema and his role in promoting tourism through film. Held annually, the IIFTC Awards are Asia’s premier event honoring cinematic excellence and the impact of film on global tourism.

The IIFTC Conclave, which took place in October, brought together filmmakers, actors, and over 50 international tourism boards from 20 countries, including Azerbaijan, South Africa, Spain, and the USA. The event aimed to enhance collaboration between the film and tourism industries, celebrating those who contribute to showcasing the beauty of diverse destinations and fostering cultural connections through cinema.

In his remarks, Subhash Ghai applauded Amritraj’s influence on global cinema. “It is an honor to celebrate a visionary like Ashok Amritraj, whose contributions to global cinema have been instrumental in uniting audiences across cultures,” said Ghai. He highlighted how Amritraj’s work exemplifies the power of storytelling to transcend borders and inspire audiences worldwide.

Amritraj expressed his gratitude for the award, stating, “I am deeply grateful to receive this prestigious recognition from IIFTC and to stand among such extraordinary filmmakers who champion storytelling as a bridge between cultures.” He emphasized cinema’s unique ability to bring diverse locations and experiences to global audiences, sparking curiosity and connections across cultures.

Harshad Bhagwat, promoter of the IIFTC Awards, spoke to the growing significance of film tourism and its ability to transform cinema into a cultural bridge. “Cinema has the power to transcend borders, not only by telling stories but also by showcasing the beauty and culture of various destinations worldwide,” Bhagwat said. He added that IIFTC aims to honor those who have used cinema as a platform to boost global tourism and highlight captivating locations on the big screen.
