Angelina Jolie is set to be celebrated at the Palm Springs International Film Awards with the prestigious Desert Palm Achievement Award (Actress) for her exceptional performance as opera icon Maria Callas in Netflix’s “Maria,” directed by Pablo Larraín.

“Maria presents the iconic Angelina Jolie in the role of a lifetime as she embodies Maria Callas, the world-renowned opera legend,” said Nachhattar Singh Chandi, Festival Chairman. “Jolie’s extraordinary portrayal captures the heart and complexity of an artist whose life was as captivating as her music.”

The awards ceremony will take place on 3 January at the Palm Springs Convention Center, as part of the Palm Springs International Film Festival running from 2 to 13 January. Jolie’s acknowledgment places her alongside previous recipients like Emma Stone, Cate Blanchett, and Viola Davis, all of whom earned Academy Award nominations following their wins.

Jolie’s role in “Maria” explores the final days of the opera legend’s life in Paris, delving into her struggles with identity and her artistic legacy after a tumultuous career. The film, featuring Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, and Kodi Smit-McPhee, will release in select theaters on 27 November before streaming on Netflix starting 11 December.

This latest accolade adds to Jolie’s storied career, which includes an Oscar win for her performance in Girl, Interrupted (1999). Beyond acting, she has directed several critically acclaimed films, including First They Killed My Father. Outside the cinematic realm, Jolie is recognized for her advocacy in environmental conservation, education, and sustainable fashion through Atelier Jolie.
