Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group and CJ ENM, the powerhouse behind Bong Joon Ho’s Oscar-winning Parasite and Celine Song’s acclaimed Past Lives, have entered a groundbreaking partnership to develop, finance, and distribute remakes of each other’s films.

Under the new deal, Warner Bros. will take the lead in producing English-language remakes of CJ ENM’s celebrated library, while CJ ENM will spearhead Korean-language adaptations of Warner Bros. classics. This collaboration marks a significant cultural and cinematic exchange between Hollywood and Korean cinema, both of which boast iconic film libraries.

While each studio will manage the development and production of their respective remakes, they will collaborate on key creative decisions, including the choice of writer, director, cast, producer, and budget. Warner Bros. will handle global distribution for all projects, with CJ ENM overseeing releases in South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Turkey.

“Miky Lee, CJ vice chairwoman, and the team at CJ ENM have built an enviable slate of films over its history to become a powerhouse producer of Korean cinema, with films that resonate with audiences across the globe,” said Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group co-chairs and CEOs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy. “We are excited to have the opportunity to work with CJ ENM as we look to expand Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group’s movie offerings around the world.”

CJ ENM’s head of film business Jerry Kyoungboum Ko echoed the enthusiasm, highlighting the unique strengths of both studios. He said, “Warner Bros. is home to a legendary library that bridges Hollywood of past and present and is steeped in excellence. Warner Bros. and CJ have built extensive libraries across North America and Asia, each in their unique way. This collaboration allows us to uncover and revitalize hidden gems, bringing inspiring stories to today’s audiences. It’s a wonderful privilege to be partnered with an iconic brand that boldly continues to evolve, create, and champion storytelling at the highest level.”

Warner Bros. boasts a library of over 12,500 feature films, including timeless classics like Casablanca, A Streetcar Named Desire, and Rebel Without a Cause, alongside modern blockbusters such as the Harry Potter series and Barbie. Meanwhile, CJ ENM’s portfolio includes critically acclaimed Korean films like Parasite, Past Lives, and The Handmaiden, cementing its status as Korea’s leading media and entertainment conglomerate.
