The highly anticipated U.S. trailer for From Ground Zero, Palestine’s official submission for Best International Feature Film at the Oscars, has been revealed, according to Deadline exclusive report. Directed by Rashid Masharawi, the story captures the unflinching realities of life in Gaza through the lens of 22 Palestinian filmmakers.

Blending animation, documentary, and fiction, the film tells stories of resilience and creativity in the aftermath of the October 2023 Hamas attacks on Israel. From Ground Zero premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and has since garnered praise for its raw and authentic portrayal of life amidst conflict.

“My goal was to amplify the voices of 22 Gazan filmmakers, and I was fortunate to bring this vision to fruition,” Masharawi shared.

Watermelon Pictures will release the film in select U.S. theaters starting 3 January, 2024, with Objectif 9 handling distribution in Canada. Munir Atalla, Head of Acquisitions and Production at Watermelon Pictures, lauded the film as a powerful symbol of resilience:

From Ground Zero is a stunning feat of resilience and a testament to the undying perseverance of the people of Gaza. It is an honor to bring these breathtaking films to a broader audience. From Ground Zero is more than a movie, it’s a miracle,” said Atalla.
