Zendaya, the multi-talented star of stage and screen, will be honored with the prestigious Spotlight Tribute at the upcoming Gotham Awards. The accolade recognizes her exceptional performance in Luca Guadagnino’s critically acclaimed film Challengers.

In the movie, Zendaya takes on the role of Tashi Donaldson, a former tennis prodigy turned coach caught in a love triangle with two male players. Not only did she shine on-screen, but she also served as a producer for the project, underscoring her influence behind the scenes.

Jeffrey Sharp, executive director of the Gotham Film & Media Institute, praised Zendaya’s contribution to the arts. “Zendaya’s magnetic portrayal of Tashi Donaldson in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers exemplifies the creative excellence that The Gotham celebrates,” Sharp said. He also highlighted her wide-ranging accomplishments, noting, “Her performances in Dune: Part One, Dune: Part Two, and Euphoria have made her one of the most captivating actors of her generation.”

The Spotlight Tribute, which acknowledges “phenomenal efforts by individuals in film and television who captivated global audiences,” adds to Zendaya’s growing list of accolades. Already a two-time Emmy and Golden Globe winner for her work on HBO’s Euphoria, Zendaya remains a strong contender in this year’s awards season with multiple projects garnering buzz.

Produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Challengers is also nominated for Best Feature at the 34th Gotham Awards. The ceremony will spotlight other talents as well, with tribute awards set for Timothée Chalamet, James Mangold for A Complete Unknown, and the cast of the prison drama Sing Sing.

The Gotham Awards, celebrating independent filmmaking and groundbreaking performances, will take place on Monday, 2 December, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.
