Netflix has announced the upcoming release of 10DANCE, a live-action film diving into the high-stakes world of competitive ballroom dancing, blending pride, passion, and unexpected romance. Directed by Keishi Otomo, famed for his work on the Rurouni Kenshin live-action series, the film is set to premiere in 2025. It stars Ryoma Takeuchi (Roppongi Class, Black Pean) and Keita Machida (Yu Yu Hakusho, Glass Heart) as rival dancers who discover a surprising connection on and off the dance floor.

The film is an adaptation of the popular manga 10DANCE by Inouesatoh, which gained recognition as a trailblazer in the competitive dance genre and won the 2019 “This BL is Amazing!” award. Serialized in Young Magazine by Kodansha, the manga captured readers with its unique storytelling and emotional depth. Now, Netflix and Director Otomo aim to translate that energy into a visually stunning cinematic experience.

Ryoma Takeuchi and Keita Machida reunite for their first collaboration in nearly eight years. Takeuchi, in his Netflix debut, stars as Shinya Suzuki, the reigning Japanese champion of Latin Dance. Machida portrays Shinya Sugiki, the Japanese champion in Standard Ballroom and the second-ranked dancer in the world. The story follows these two champions, who hail from contrasting dance disciplines and possess clashing personalities. Initially rivals, they form an unlikely partnership to compete in the prestigious 10-Dance Competition, a grueling event requiring mastery of both Latin and Standard Ballroom styles. As they navigate their intense training, their dynamic evolves from rivalry to camaraderie—and eventually, romance.

“This film challenges us to explore the depths of love and its capacity,” Director Otomo said. “When two people dance passionately together, they become so in sync that it feels as if they transform into something greater, transcending boundaries with hidden emotions and passions. With Ryoma Takeuchi and Keita Machida, we aim to deliver a glamorous and fresh dance film that captivates audiences.”

Inouesatoh, the manga’s creator, expressed excitement about the adaptation, admitting initial apprehension about the challenges of bringing the story to life. “However, knowing Netflix and Director Otomo are involved eased my worries,” she shared. “The casting of Mr. Takeuchi and Mr. Machida is perfect, capturing the essence of the characters. I am confident they will express the sensuality and joy beyond the manga, and I eagerly await the film’s completion.”

Produced by Netflix in collaboration with Episcope, the film features a screenplay by Tomoko Yoshida and Keishi Otomo, cinematography by Tatsunosuke Sasaki, and a musical score by Masaru Yokoyama. Filming is being helmed by an experienced production team dedicated to capturing the visual flair and emotional resonance of the source material.

10DANCE is set to stream exclusively on Netflix worldwide in 2025, promising to bring the electrifying world of competitive dance to a global audience.
