Netflix has released the main trailer for its highly anticipated four-part Norwegian disaster miniseries La Palma, premiering on 12 December. Created by the minds behind the box-office hits The Wave, The Quake, and The Burning Sea, La Palma is set to push the boundaries of visual effects in Norwegian television. The series promises to deliver spectacular and jaw-dropping sequences as it tells a gripping tale of survival amid a catastrophic volcanic eruption.
The drama stars Anders Baasmo (Power Play, The Arctic Convoy), Ingrid Bolsø Berdal (Westworld, The Seed), Thea Sofie Loch Næss (So Long, Marianne, The Last Kingdom), and Thorbjørn Harr (Sex, Power Play). Directed by Kasper Barfoed, known for his work on The Nurse and The Chestnut Man, the series features a talented ensemble cast caught in the chaos of an unexpected disaster.
Co-writers Harald Rosenløw Eeg and Lars Gudmestad shared their excitement about creating the series, noting, “It’s been exciting for us to use the disaster genre in a TV series format where we can get even closer to the characters while telling the story on a massive scale. The series shows ordinary people’s limits being tested in the event of a disaster and how they push themselves to overcome fears. La Palma also pushes the boundaries of what’s possible to achieve with visual effects in a Norwegian TV series. We hope people see that we have put our heart and soul into creating something entertaining and spectacular.”
La Palma centers on a group of Norwegian tourists who are caught in the midst of a massive volcanic eruption on the picturesque Canary Islands. As toxic ash, lava, and chaos spread, they must fight for their lives while racing to safety. The series explores the human spirit’s resilience and determination in the face of overwhelming adversity.
Alongside Baasmo, Berdal, Loch Næss, and Harr, the cast includes Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Johannes Joner, Jorge de Juan, Iselin Shumba, and Amund Harboe. The series is produced by Lasse Greve Alsos and Glenn Lund, with Martin Sundland serving as the executive producer.
La Palma will be available to stream on Netflix starting December 12, with all four episodes ready for viewers to dive into. The series marks a new chapter in Norwegian television, combining large-scale disaster storytelling with groundbreaking visual effects to deliver a unique, high-stakes experience for audiences.
