Maddock Films is all set to bring back the charm of its 2012 hit Cocktail with a sequel. This time, the romantic comedy will feature an all-new cast, led by Shahid Kapoor. Homi Adajania, the director of the original film, returns to helm the project, which is scheduled to begin filming in mid-2025.

Unlike its predecessor, which starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty in a love triangle, Cocktail 2 promises a fresh storyline while maintaining the tone and vibrant setting that defined the original. According to sources, Shahid Kapoor has verbally committed to the project and is impressed with the urban rom-com’s script.

“Dinesh Vijan and Homi Adajania have been toying with the idea of a Cocktail sequel for years, and they’ve now crafted a storyline that they believe matches the magic of the first film,” shared a source close to the project. “Although Cocktail 2 features a completely new narrative, its tone and vibrant setting reminisce about the original, thus being labeled a sequel.”

Discussions are currently underway with several young actresses to finalize the female leads.

Producer Dinesh Vijan, known for backing commercially successful films, is taking extra care to ensure Cocktail 2 resonates with modern audiences. This sequel comes after Maddock Films’ earlier attempt at recreating Saif Ali Khan-Deepika Padukone magic with Love Aaj Kal 2.0, which failed to click with viewers.

Shahid Kapoor, whose association with Maddock Films began with Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, is expected to start filming for Cocktail 2 after wrapping up Vishal Bhardwaj’s action thriller. In the yet-untitled film, Shahid plays a gangster modeled on Hussain Ustara, a don who famously rivaled Dawood Ibrahim. Triptii Dimri stars alongside him in this Sajid Nadiadwala production.

Additionally, Shahid will be seen in Deva, a Rosshan Andrrews-directed cop thriller slated for a Valentine’s Day 2025 release.

The 2012 Cocktail captured the complexities of modern relationships through its free-spirited characters and urban setting. Saif Ali Khan’s charming flirt, Deepika Padukone’s wild and lively Veronica, and Diana Penty’s shy Meera created a dynamic that resonated with audiences. The film was not only a commercial hit but also became a cultural reference for its stylish portrayal of love and friendship.

With Cocktail 2, Maddock Films aims to retain that spirit while delivering a fresh and relatable love story for today’s generation.
