Jason Clarke is set to portray Alex Murdaugh, the disgraced South Carolina attorney convicted of murdering his wife and son, in Hulu’s upcoming limited series about the infamous Murdaugh family saga. Patricia Arquette will co-star as Maggie Murdaugh, the family matriarch.
The untitled series, co-created by Michael D. Fuller and Erin Lee Carr, delves into the rise and fall of Alex Murdaugh. Once a symbol of power and privilege in Hampton County, South Carolina, the Murdaugh dynasty unraveled when a tragic accident exposed secrets that spiraled into a shocking double homicide. In 2023, Murdaugh was sentenced to consecutive life terms for the murders of Maggie and their son Paul.
Drawing inspiration from journalist Mandy Matney’s investigative reporting and her acclaimed Murdaugh Murders Podcast, the show also explores other mysterious cases tied to the family, including the reopened investigation into the death of Stephen Smith, a schoolmate of Buster Murdaugh.
The series is produced by UCP, a Universal Studio Group division, with Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund from Eat the Cat serving as executive producers alongside Matney.
Clarke, known for Oppenheimer, Winning Time, and Zero Dark Thirty, continues his prolific career with this project. His upcoming work includes The Last Frontier on Apple TV+ and a reunion with Kathryn Bigelow on an untitled thriller.
