Peacock’s breakout series Bel-Air is set to conclude after its upcoming fourth season, marking the end of a modern reimagining that brought The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air into the 21st century. Sources confirm that the final season will consist of eight episodes, a reduction from the 10-episode runs of the first three seasons.

The renewal comes nearly three months after the Season 3 finale aired on 5 September. Industry insiders suggest behind-the-scenes budget discussions delayed the decision, a departure from the earlier pattern when Season 3 was greenlit ahead of Season 2’s conclusion.

Bel-Air began as a four-minute spec trailer created by Morgan Cooper, which reimagined the 1990s sitcom as a contemporary drama. The concept gained viral acclaim, eventually securing a two-season order from Peacock during its infancy in 2020. The show became the streamer’s first homegrown success, putting Peacock on the map as a contender in original programming.

Jabari Banks, stepping into the iconic role originally played by Will Smith, leads the ensemble cast that includes Adrian Holmes, Cassandra Freeman, Coco Jones, Olly Sholotan, Akira Akbar, and Jimmy Akingbola.

After early changes in leadership, Carla Banks Waddles has served as showrunner since Season 2. Waddles, a series writer from the beginning, oversees the production alongside an impressive team of executive producers, including Morgan Cooper, Will Smith, and Quincy Jones.

The show, produced by Universal Television and Westbrook Studios, also made waves with its notable guest stars, which have included original Fresh Prince cast members like Tatyana Ali, Joseph Marcell, and Vernee Watson-Johnson, as well as contemporary icons such as Bianca Belair, Saweetie, and Marlon Wayans.

Bel-Air’s fourth and final season reflects the streamer’s strategic focus as it matures in the competitive streaming landscape. With its reduced episode count, the series aims to deliver a tight conclusion to a story that has resonated with fans old and new.
