Telugu actor Allu Arjun is set to face charges for the deadly stampede that occurred outside a Hyderabad theatre on Wednesday, which resulted in the death of one woman. The incident took place when Arjun arrived unexpectedly for the premiere of his film Pushpa 2: The Rule, causing chaos among the waiting crowd. In addition to the actor, the management of Sandhya Theatre will also be held accountable for failing to make adequate security arrangements to manage the crowd.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand confirmed that the incident occurred due to a lack of prior communication from either Arjun’s team or the theatre management regarding the actor’s visit. “There was no intimation from the side of the theatre management or actor’s team that they would be visiting the theatre,” the commissioner said. He added that there was no separate entry or exit arrangements for Arjun and his team, despite the theatre management being aware of their arrival.

The stampede began as a large crowd surged forward to catch a glimpse of the actor, leading to the collapse of the theatre’s main gate. In an attempt to control the crowd, security personnel used lathi charges, but despite their efforts, the situation turned fatal. The deceased, identified as 35-year-old Revathi, and her nine-year-old son Teja, who was hospitalized for asphyxiation, were caught in the chaos. Teja is currently in critical condition and undergoing treatment.

The family of the deceased has demanded accountability from both the theatre management and the actor, seeking a response from Arjun and asking for support in light of the tragic incident. “Stringent action as per law will be taken against all the persons responsible for the chaotic situation inside the theatre leading to the death of a person and injury to others,” the police commissioner assured.

In response to the tragic incident, authorities have filed a case under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on a complaint from the woman’s family.
