Emmy-winning actress Julie Bowen is set to star in NBC’s upcoming comedy series Taste, currently in development from Universal Television, according to Deadline exclusive report. The half-hour series is penned by Justin Shanes and Nedaa Sweiss, who also serve as executive producers.

Taste dives into the dynamics of a legacy food magazine in the Bay Area, where traditionalism collides with innovation. Bowen plays the magazine’s seasoned editor, whose life is disrupted when a Silicon Valley tech mogul acquires the publication. Adding to the tension, she must navigate a working relationship with a young, trending TikTok chef, setting the stage for humor and generational conflicts.

Bowen will also executive produce the series through her Bowen and Sons Production banner, working alongside company president Rachael Field. Joining the team is Gail Simmons, Top Chef judge and former special projects director at Food & Wine, who will bring her expertise to the show.

Bowen, best known for her two Emmy-winning portrayal of Claire Dunphy on Modern Family, remains a prominent figure in both comedy and drama. Since the series ended in 2020, Bowen has appeared in Peacock’s comedy-horror Hysteria! and on the big screen in The Fallout and Hubie Halloween. She is set to reprise her role as Virginia Venit in the upcoming Happy Gilmore sequel, slated for release in 2025.

The series is crafted by Shanes, known for his work on NBC’s Superstore and Universal Television’s St. Denis Medical. Shanes brings a wealth of experience, including a Daytime Emmy for his writing on children’s animated series WordGirl.

Sweiss, a writer and showrunner for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, brings her sharp comedic perspective to the project. Named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2021, Sweiss has also contributed to The Late Late Show with James Corden.
