In a bold display of unity and defiance, farmers from across the UK have converged on Westminster today, bringing their tractors to central London to challenge the government’s proposed inheritance tax changes for agricultural businesses.

Organized by Save British Farming (SBF) and Kent Fairness for Farmers, the protest coincides with Prime Minister’s Questions in Parliament, amplifying the farmers’ demand for their concerns to be addressed.

Liz Webster, founder of SBF, sharply criticized the Prime Minister, accusing the government of undermining the agricultural sector. “He is pulling the rug from under farmers’ feet, aiming to dismantle British farming as we know it. But farmers are resilient and united in this fight,” she remarked, likening the policies to “the straw that broke the camel’s back,” said Webster.

Tractors adorned with banners bearing slogans like “Starmer the farmer harmer” and “Keir Stalinarmer, global laughing stock – stop the death tax” began rolling into London early this morning. The protest, expected to draw large crowds, includes speeches on Whitehall and a slow-moving tractor rally through the heart of the city.

While the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) has not officially endorsed the demonstration, its president, Tom Bradshaw, acknowledged the widespread frustration in the agricultural community. “These events reflect the strong feelings across the agricultural community. We hope they are well-attended and farmers’ voices are heard,” Bradshaw stated.

The planned tax measures, announced in October’s budget, have ignited fierce opposition from farmers and public figures alike. The initial protests last month drew an estimated 13,000 participants, with support from notable personalities such as Jeremy Clarkson and political leaders Kemi Badenoch, Sir Ed Davey, and Nigel Farage.

As tractors fill the streets of London, similar protests are expected outside the Welsh Senedd and other towns and cities nationwide, marking a unified stand by Britain’s farming community against policies they view as threatening the future of family farms.
