Prime Video has revealed that Emmy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated actress Shohreh Aghdashloo is set to join the cast of The Wheel of Time in its upcoming third season, premiering globally on 13 March, 2025. Aghdashloo will take on the role of Elaida do Avriny a’Roihan, a powerful and complex character from Robert Jordan’s celebrated fantasy book series upon which the show is based. The announcement was made on 11 December, 2024, as anticipation builds for the next chapter of the popular series.

Elaida, a member of the Red Ajah among the elite Aes Sedai sisterhood, is known for her ruthless approach to achieving what she perceives as the greater good. A master of both politicking and channeling the One Power, she shares a turbulent history with Moiraine and Siuan, promising dramatic confrontations when she returns to the White Tower.

Aghdashloo, renowned for her commanding performances, expressed enthusiasm for her role. Prime Video described Elaida as “someone who believes in ends over means and is willing to do anything to achieve what she envisions to be the greater good.”

Aghdashloo’s career spans decades, with standout roles in House of Sand and Fog—which earned her an Academy Award nomination—and the Emmy-winning miniseries House of Saddam. She has appeared in critically acclaimed projects such as The Expanse, The Stoning of Soraya M., 24, and The Punisher, and she recently lent her voice to the Netflix film Damsel and the video game Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

Her rich acting portfolio also includes roles in iconic productions like Mass Effect and Destiny video games, the animated series Arcane, and stage performances in works like House of Bernarda Alba. Beyond her screen and stage work, Aghdashloo has narrated audiobooks and authored the memoir The Alley of Love and Yellow Jasmines. In 2015, she was honored with the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for her artistic achievements and dedication to social justice.

The Wheel of Time, co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, tells the epic story of Rand al’Thor, a humble farm boy who discovers he is the Dragon Reborn—a pivotal figure destined to save or destroy the world. After the events of Season Two, where Rand triumphed over Ishamael, Season Three will intensify the stakes. With the White Tower divided, old enemies reemerging, and the Forsaken hunting the Dragon, the season promises high drama. Moiraine and Egwene must navigate their fraught relationship as Rand’s growing power threatens his ties to the Light.

The series stars Rosamund Pike as Moiraine Damodred, Josha Stradowski as Rand al’Thor, and an ensemble cast that includes Daniel Henney, Zoë Robins, Madeleine Madden, and Natasha O’Keefe. Developed for television by Rafe Judkins, the show’s executive production team includes Rick Selvage, Larry Mondragon, Ted Field, Marigo Kehoe, and Rosamund Pike, among others. With Aghdashloo joining the cast, Season Three promises to delve deeper into the intricate politics and power struggles of the White Tower, bringing fans of both the books and the series an exciting continuation of the story. Fans can catch up on the first two seasons of The Wheel of Time, now streaming on Prime Video.
