Indian filmmaker Vikas Bahl has officially confirmed that the sequel of iconic film Queen is in the pipeline with Kangna Ranaut. The follow-up to the 2014 blockbuster, which redefined Indian cinema with its bold, female-led narrative, promises to bring a fresh story to the big screen.

In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Bahl said, “We now have something concrete for Queen 2.” While he did not reveal too many details, he teased that “big plans” are in motion. Since the announcement, fans are eagerly anticipating the return of Kangana’s much-loved character, Rani Mehra.

The original Queen captured hearts with its empowering storyline about a shy Punjabi girl from Delhi who embarks on a solo honeymoon to Paris and Amsterdam after her fiancé abruptly calls off their wedding. Rani’s transformative journey of self-discovery resonated with audiences, thanks to Kangana’s brilliant performance. The film garnered critical acclaim, winning two National Film Awards for Best Hindi Film and Best Actress, along with six Filmfare Awards. It remains a landmark in Indian cinema, celebrated for its progressive portrayal of women.

Though work on the sequel is in its nascent stages, Bahl is currently immersed in other projects. He is filming a quirky romantic comedy, Dil Ka Darwaaza Khol Na Darling, in Goa. Starring Jaya Bachchan, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Wamiqa Gabbi, the film is set against the backdrop of a middle-class family. Bahl describes it as a “crazy romantic comedy,” adding that 80% of the film is already complete and that Jaya Bachchan will be seen in a role unlike any she has played before.

Besides Queen 2 and his current project, Bahl is also exploring a sequel to his 2011 thriller Shaitaan. He admitted to being inspired by filmmakers crafting cinematic universes, hinting at his desire to create an action thriller in the future. “I feel a little jealous of them,” he said, underscoring his enthusiasm for experimenting with new genres and storytelling styles.
