The “Scream” franchise is gearing up for its seventh installment, with Mason Gooding set to reprise his role as Chad Meeks-Martin. Sources confirmed to Deadline that the actor will return for the next chapter in the iconic horror series, though his on-screen sister, Mindy, played by Jasmin Savoy Brown, has yet to officially sign on.
Gooding’s return follows a turbulent period for the film, marked by production delays, creative shifts, and changes in the cast. In March, the actor addressed the challenges surrounding the project. “If it could make money, I guarantee, they’re making it,” Gooding told us at the time. “It’s all about keeping up with what feels like is the best movie for the fans. ‘Scream’ doesn’t exist without the people who enjoy it as much as they do. … If people want it, they will certainly try their best to see it happen.”
The excitement around “Scream 7” has been building, especially after Neve Campbell’s return was confirmed. The actress, who sat out the previous film due to a salary dispute, will reprise her role as Sidney Prescott. The upcoming movie will also see Kevin Williamson step behind the camera for the first time as director, after having written the original “Scream” in 1996. Williamson joins the project after Christopher Landon’s exit, marking a return to the franchise’s roots.
While Courteney Cox is in talks to return as Gale Weathers, she has not yet signed on. The new cast will feature Isabel May as Sidney Prescott’s daughter, along with McKenna Grace, Sam Rechner, and Asa Germann. However, not all familiar faces will be making a return. Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, who starred in the first two films of the reboot, will not be part of “Scream 7.” Barrera was let go due to controversial social media posts, and Ortega, caught up in her schedule for Netflix’s “Wednesday,” is unavailable.
Gooding will next be seen alongside Olivia Holt in the upcoming horror film “Heart Eyes,” set to release on 7 February. His latest work was Kyle Mooney’s disaster comedy “Y2K.”
As of now, “Scream 7” is scheduled for release on February 27, 2026, under the distribution of Paramount Pictures. The film is being produced by Spyglass Media.
