Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans’ festive action movie Red One has smashed records, becoming Prime Video’s most-watched Amazon MGM Studios film with an impressive 50 million global viewers in just four days. The streaming giant confirmed the achievement, surpassing Road House, which drew 50 million viewers over its first two weekends earlier this year.

Directed by Jake Kasdan and produced by Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions, the $200 million holiday blockbuster dropped on Prime Video on December 12 following a successful 28-day theatrical run. Initially slated for a direct streaming release, the film tested so well that Amazon MGM Studios opted for a theatrical rollout. Since its November 15 debut in theaters, Red One has grossed over $175 million worldwide while maintaining strong box office momentum. The film earned an A- CinemaScore and boasts a 90% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, praised the decision to include a theatrical release: “Given the audience response to Red One both in theaters and on Prime Video, the film will clearly be a perennial holiday favorite for years to come. Every film is different, and we are so grateful for the partnership with our filmmakers in collectively finding the right strategy to get this film in front of the widest possible audience. With Red One, there was no doubt that strategy needed to include a theatrical release and associated marketing campaign, which drove audiences to theaters and generated awareness for the film with viewers who would ultimately tune in on Prime Video. It’s rewarding to see our plan pay off for customers, and we are incredibly thankful to the entire filmmaking team and cast who helped make it happen.”

The global marketing push for Red One included press tours in Berlin, London, and New York, alongside a trailer campaign that racked up over 460 million views worldwide. The film even entered the digital gaming world with a Red One-themed raid on Roblox’s Anime Defenders, amassing 163 million game visits and 337 million video views during its three-week run. Promo partners like M&M’s, Farmers, LG, Duracell, and Salt & Straw also added to the film’s visibility, with a custom spot airing during Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football broadcast of the Ravens-Bengals game.

As Prime Video celebrates the success of Red One, it adds another feather to its cap for a year filled with standout releases like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2, The Boys Season 4, and Fallout. With Red One proving to be a massive hit both in theaters and on streaming, Amazon MGM Studios looks to build on its momentum with upcoming releases like Beast Games (19 December), The Fire Inside (25 December), and You’re Cordially Invited (January 30).
