The gripping pages of Lilja Sigurdardóttir’s Reykjavik Noir trilogy are headed for the screen, with Icelandic streamer Síminn officially boarding the series adaptation, according to Deadline exclusive. Glassriver, the Icelandic production house behind Cold Haven and As Long As We Live, is spearheading the project after securing rights in a deal facilitated by the Reykjavik Literary Agency.

The trilogy, which includes Snare, Trap, and Cage, unravels in the dark underbelly of Reykjavik. It follows Sonja, a young mother who turns to smuggling cocaine to regain custody of her son, only to find herself entangled in Iceland’s criminal underworld. Along the way, she clashes with Bragi, a seasoned customs officer, and develops a romantic relationship with Agla.

The novels have achieved global acclaim, translated into 17 languages and earning accolades such as Thriller of the Year in 2017 from the New York Journal of Books. “Seeing the Reykjavik Noir series adapted for television is an incredible milestone,” Sigurdardóttir shared, praising Glassriver for their vision that aligns seamlessly with the gritty, character-driven narratives of her work.

Glassriver’s Andri Ómarsson emphasized the international appeal of the series, describing it as “a masterful blend of intrigue, suspense, and deeply human storytelling.” For Síminn, the adaptation marks another step in showcasing Icelandic creativity on a global stage. “With its gripping storytelling and unforgettable characters, the series promises to captivate our audiences,” said Birkir Agustsson, VP of Media at Síminn.

Sigurdardóttir’s razor-sharp storytelling, highlighted by her vivid characters and fast-paced plots, has made her a standout voice in crime fiction. “Her thrillers are highly visual, almost as if written for the screen,” said Stella Soffia Johannesdottir of the Reykjavik Literary Agency.
