The Whoniverse is expanding with a new companion as the teaser for Doctor Who Season 2 introduces Varada Sethu as Belinda Chandra. Set against the backdrop of looming danger, Chandra commands attention, telling Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor: “You need to get me home!”
The teaser hints at an apocalyptic invasion with spaceships and robots wreaking havoc as Gatwa’s Doctor exclaims, “What the hell is this?!” Millie Gibson’s Ruby Sunday also makes a return, quashing rumors that she wouldn’t reprise her role as the Doctor’s companion.
The official synopsis reveals the storyline for the upcoming season. “The Doctor meets Belinda Chandra and begins an epic quest to get her back to Earth. But a mysterious force is stopping their return and the time-traveling TARDIS team must face great dangers, bigger enemies, and wider terrors than ever before,” read the synopsis.
The teaser dropped after the airing of the Doctor Who Christmas special, Joy to the World, featuring Nicola Coughlan as Joy. In this festive episode, Joy checks into a London hotel and inadvertently opens a secret doorway to the Time Hotel, leading to an adventure filled with dinosaurs, danger, and a deadly plan threatening all of human history.

Coughlan’s character teams up with the Doctor to thwart the chaos, with the episode’s synopsis noting, read “What is going on in Joy’s hotel room? An old enemy of the Doctor’s is lurking in the wings, and all of human history hangs in the balance. Can the Doctor save Christmas, everywhere, all at once?”
Season 2, co-produced by Disney+ and BBC, marks the continued collaboration between the two entertainment giants. Produced by Bad Wolf, with Russell T Davies at the helm as showrunner and executive producer, the series also boasts a team of executive producers, including Joel Collins, Phil Collinson, Julie Gardner, and Jane Tranter.
