The second season of Apple TV+’s Bad Sisters has wrapped, leaving viewers with a mix of intrigue and emotional resonance. Co-created by Sharon Horgan and based on the Belgian series Clan, the show once again explored the complex lives of the Garvey sisters, who are still grappling with the consequences of their actions in Season 1.

While the season began with teasers of a dead body being thrown into the sea, the story took a different turn. “All the decisions those characters had to make felt a lot harder and a lot less satisfying if there’s another dead body,” Horgan shared. “I wanted [Angelica] to be the heroine, really… but I needed the sisters to think they were f*cking in so much trouble, and for it to build and build and build.”
Season 2 delved into the aftermath of John Paul Williams’ demise. As the body of his father emerges from a pond at the family home, buried secrets threaten to unravel the peace Grace had fought so hard to achieve. Her marriage to Ian Reilly offered brief solace before her tragic death in Episode 2, further complicating the Garvey sisters’ lives.

What seemed to be a supportive relationship between Grace’s new husband, Ian, and the sisters quickly unraveled. Ian was revealed to be Cormac, an ex-police officer with a history of abuse allegations. This revelation set the stage for a darkly comedic yet satisfying resolution.

“With Ian, I wanted that final moment, that f*ck you,” Horgan explained. “I love that Eva got to look into his eyes. I like that Houlihan gets to have one over on him.”

Houlihan’s partnership with Loftus ultimately ensured justice, with Ian’s manipulation exposed and punished in a scene as cathartic as it was humorous. The season’s finale mirrored the first with a scene by the water, offering a bittersweet sense of closure. Horgan emphasized the intentional parallel: “There is a connection, for sure, and it’s a horribly sad one… but what I wanted to show in the end was just that they’re all together, and they’re still a family and life continues.”

Horgan has hinted that Season 2 may be the end for the Garvey sisters, said, “Life is not usually as tied up in a bow as that.” The show’s exploration of family, resilience, and the consequences of choices has left an indelible mark on its audience.
