Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman in Warner Bros and DC’s blockbuster films, has officially landed the part of Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, according to Deadline report.

Momoa has long expressed his passion for playing the irreverent bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia. In a post on Instagram, he shared his excitement, reposting comments from a past interview where he stated, “I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but [Lobo] was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role.’” He added enthusiastically, “Should DC come around asking me to play Lobo, it would be ‘a f*ck yeah.’” Captioning his Instagram post with the words, “They called,” Momoa left no doubt about his enthusiasm for the project.

Lobo, created by writer Roger Slifer and artist Keith Giffen, first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983. Known for his violent tendencies and dark humor, the character boasts superhuman strength, regenerative powers, and near-invulnerability. His chaotic and destructive personality has made him a fan-favorite antihero in the DC universe.

While plot details for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow remain tightly guarded, the film is shaping up to be a significant addition to DC’s cinematic landscape. Milly Alcock of House of the Dragon fame will star as Supergirl, while Matthias Schoenaerts is set to play the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hill. Eve Ridley joins the cast as Ruthye Mary Knolle. Craig Gillespie will direct the film, with a script by Ana Nogueira, based on the 2022 comic series by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. Production kicks off on January 13, with James Gunn and Peter Safran producing and Chantal Nong serving as executive producer.

Momoa’s casting as Lobo follows his tremendous success with the Aquaman franchise, which has grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide. The actor’s upcoming slate includes Warner Bros projects such as A Minecraft Movie, set to release on April 4, and the live-action/animated hybrid Animal Friends. Fans will also see him in Fast X: Part 2, the Apple TV+ miniseries Chief of War, and Amazon MGM’s The Wrecking Crew alongside Dave Bautista.
