Paramount+ is set to launch its latest original movie, Star Trek: Section 31, on 24 January, 2025, exclusively on its streaming platform. This highly anticipated installment features the return of Oscar® winner Michelle Yeoh as Emperor Philippa Georgiou, a role she first captivated audiences with in Star Trek: Discovery.
The plot of Section 31 thrusts Yeoh’s character into a shadowy division of Starfleet, where she is charged with safeguarding the United Federation of Planets. Alongside her duty, Georgiou must confront the lingering specters of her past actions.
The movie boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Omari Hardwick, Kacey Rohl, Emmy® winner Sam Richardson, Sven Ruygrok, Robert Kazinsky, Humberly Gonzalez, and James Hiroyuki Liao. Adding depth to the narrative, Miku Martineau will portray a young Philippa Georgiou.
Helmed by director Olatunde Osunsanmi and written by Craig Sweeny, Star Trek: Section 31 is produced by CBS Studios in collaboration with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. The production team includes Alex Kurtzman, Craig Sweeny, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, and Michelle Yeoh herself.
“Star Trek: Section 31 will soon join a host of the world’s best entertainment currently streaming on Paramount+, including Aussie Shore, The Last King of The Cross Season Two, The Inspired Unemployed (Impractical) Jokers Season Two, Fake, Top Gear Australia, Tulsa King Season Two, Frasier Season Two, and NCIS: Sydney, with Landman Season One and Lioness Season Two streaming soon,” the release stated.
This announcement adds to the extensive Star Trek universe available on Paramount+, which includes series like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and the upcoming Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Fans can also stream all seasons of Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard.
