ITV has confirmed the return of its BAFTA-nominated comedy-drama The Dry for a third and final series, set to debut on ITVX in 2026. This announcement comes as the second series prepares to air on ITV1 starting 12 January.
The show has been a streaming hit, with its second series amassing 2 million streams since its launch on ITVX in 2024. Combined, the first two seasons have garnered over 8.2 million streams. The Dry, produced by Element Pictures in collaboration with RTÉ, Fís Eireann/Screen Ireland, and ITV Studios, continues to captivate audiences with its blend of humor and emotional depth.
Award-winning playwright and screenwriter Nancy Harris and director Paddy Breathnach return to helm the new series, promising more of the same sharp storytelling and poignant moments. Roisin Gallagher reprises her role as Shiv Sheridan, the recovering alcoholic whose journey forms the heart of the show, alongside the familiar faces of the Sheridan family.
The upcoming series promises to delve deeper into the Sheridans’ complexities, as they confront a seismic family secret that could either break or mend their fragile bonds. As the series progresses, Shiv faces her toughest challenge yet, grappling with the realization that her struggles might stem from within.
Nana Hughes, ITV’s Head of Scripted Comedy, expressed excitement for the series’ return, stating, “It’s such a special show, and we look forward to bringing more of the Sheridan family to screens later in the year on ITVX.”
Executive Producer Emma Norton added, “The Dry team are all so excited to be able to give the Sheridans their grand finale. This season is going to be full of the show’s signature irreverence and pathos.”
Writer Nancy Harris shared her enthusiasm, saying, “Season 3 digs into the roots of the Sheridans’ dysfunctional dynamic, unearthing long-held secrets and taking our characters in new and unexpected directions. It’s going to be a wild ride.”
Dermot Horan, RTÉ’s Director of Acquisitions & Co-Productions, highlighted the show’s resonance with audiences, noting, “The Dry has reached over 1.2 million streams on RTÉ Player to date, which demonstrates the huge demand for local Irish drama.”
Emma Norton, Ed Guiney, and Andrew Lowe will serve as executive producers alongside Nancy Harris and Paddy Breathnach, with ITV Studios handling global distribution.
