The Northampton Film Festival is set to dazzle audiences from 7-15 March, with a lineup of 80 films that promise to capture the essence of the town. According to BBC report, the festival will spotlight local and British-made films under the theme of “rebels and revolutionaries, misfits and mavericks, creatives and changemakers,” aiming to celebrate and reflect the unique character of Northamptonshire.

Festival director Becky Carrier expressed her hopes that this year’s event would ignite a spark of creativity among attendees. “We get a lot of people who come from outside of Northamptonshire that come along and go, ‘this film festival is really punching above its weight,’” said Carrier adding that “It’s great because Northamptonshire, in so many respects, punches above its weight and that’s what we’re trying to do with the film festival.”

The 2025 edition will kick off with a red carpet opening gala at Delapre Abbey, Northampton, and will feature two closing awards ceremonies at the guildhall. The festival’s program also includes a special celebration of women in film in honor of International Women’s Day.

All films showcased during the festival are contenders for best film awards across various categories. Special recognition will be given to young filmmakers under the age of 16, celebrating their contributions and honoring the standout movies.

Carrier elaborated on the festival’s mission, said, “I think what we’re trying to do is capture the character of Northampton and Northamptonshire with the things that we do, which we say, is a place of ‘rebels and revolutionaries, misfits and mavericks, creators and changemakers.’”

Highlighting the inclusive spirit of the event, she added, “We’re doing a screening for local school children in collaboration with the world’s leading festival for people with learning disabilities and autism. We’re doing a big opening gala, which, you know, is all that red carpet dressing up.”

Carrier hopes the festival will leave a lasting impact on its audience, encouraging them to pursue their own creative endeavors. “Hopefully [the event] will inspire people to do something for themselves, whether it’s making a film or doing something else creative,” she said.
