ABC has officially renewed its hit crime drama High Potential for a second season, solidifying its spot on the network’s 2025-26 lineup alongside the acclaimed comedy Abbott Elementary. The early renewal places High Potential among the season’s standout freshman dramas, including CBS’ Matlock, both of which were initially delayed due to industry strikes.
The episode count for Season 2 has yet to be finalized, though it is expected to surpass the first season’s 13-episode run. The show’s unique production schedule, coupled with Kaitlin Olson’s ongoing commitment to FX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, led to an abbreviated debut season.
Created by Drew Goddard and inspired by the French series HPI, High Potential has quickly become a runaway success for ABC. The pilot episode alone has got nearly 30 million viewers across platforms. It has also captured younger audiences, ranking as the top broadcast entertainment series among adults 18-49 with a 2.34 L7 cross-platform rating.
The series returned from its winter hiatus on 7 January with record-breaking viewership, achieving series highs in total viewers and adults 18-49. This performance marks ABC’s largest drama audience in over four years.
High Potential stars Kaitlin Olson as Morgan, a single mother with a 160 IQ who works as a cleaning lady for the Los Angeles Police Department before becoming a consultant for the Major Crimes division. The ensemble cast includes Daniel Sunjata as Karadec, Javicia Leslie as Daphne, Deniz Akdeniz as Lev “Oz” Ozdil, Amirah J as Ava, Matthew Lamb as Elliot, and Judy Reyes as Selena.
Executive producers Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg of Goddard Textiles, along with showrunner Todd Harthan, helm the series, with Olson also serving as a producer. The show is produced by 20th Television.
