Indian actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is all set to make a grand return to the digital space with the Indian adaptation of the celebrated American medical drama House for Disney+ Hotstar. Siddiqui is one of Bollywood’s actors who redefined the Indian OTT content with Netflix’s Sacred Games.
Produced by Banijay Asia, this high-profile series will see Nawazuddin step into the shoes of an eccentric, antisocial medical genius— a role originally played by Hugh Laurie in the US version. According to Peeping Moon, the show is currently in pre-production and being helmed by writer-director Vijay Maurya, known for his work on Gully Boy, Darlings, and Toofaan. Filming is expected to commence in mid-2025, as per the report.
The original House, created by David Shore, ran for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012, chronicling the life of Dr. Gregory House, a cynical yet brilliant diagnostician whose genius often clashed with his self-destructive tendencies. Nawazuddin’s version will bring a fresh, Indian spin to the character, diving deep into complex medical mysteries with the same irreverence and genius that made the original series iconic.
Banijay Asia and Disney+ Hotstar have previously collaborated on international adaptations such as the Emmy-nominated The Night Manager and The Trial, a remake of The Good Wife. Their upcoming slate also includes an Indian take on the detective drama Monk, set to premiere in late 2025.
Beyond House, Siddiqui has an exciting lineup of projects including Raat Akeli Hai 2 for Netflix India alongside Chitrangda Singh and Radhika Apte. He has also wrapped up Thama, a Maddock Films production co-starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna. He is also set to appear in Bole Chudiyaan, Noorani Chehra, and Bhavesh Mandalia’s Lion King.
With House, Nawazuddin Siddiqui not only marks his return to web series after six years but also steps into a role that promises to showcase his signature intensity and depth. Fans can expect a gripping, character-driven drama that pushes the boundaries of Indian OTT storytelling.
