The battle for the Iron Throne is getting fiercer as House of the Dragon expands its cast for Season 3. James Norton has been tapped to portray Ormund Hightower, the formidable Lord of Oldtown and a key player in the escalating Targaryen conflict.
Ormund, previously mentioned in Season 2 but unseen until now, is the nephew of Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), cousin to Queen Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and Ser Gwayne Hightower (Freddie Fox). As the commander leading Hightower forces toward King’s Landing, his arrival spells another strategic shift in the bloody war against Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy).
Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, HBO’s House of the Dragon takes viewers 200 years before Game of Thrones, chronicling the rise and fall of House Targaryen. Alongside Ifans, Cooke, Fox, and D’Arcy, the series also stars Matt Smith, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Matthew Needham, Sonoya Mizuno, Tom Glynn-Carney, Ewan Mitchell, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, and Jefferson Hall.
The upcoming season introduces additional cast members, including Abubakar Salim, Gayle Rankin, Simon Russell Beale, Clinton Liberty, Jamie Kenna, Kieran Bew, Tom Bennett, Tom Taylor, and Vincent Regan. Showrunner Ryan Condal co-created the series with Martin and serves as executive producer alongside Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, and Vince Gerardis.
Norton is no stranger to HBO audiences, having starred as Hugo Swan in The Nevers. His extensive television work includes Happy Valley and Grantchester, while his film credits range from Joy and Little Women to his recent role in Bob Marley: One Love. With his addition to House of the Dragon, the stakes in Westeros just got even higher.
Season 3 is expected to bring more fire, blood, and political intrigue as alliances shift and war looms closer.
