The battle is set, the warriors are ready, and the countdown to Netflix’s Last Samurai Standing has begun. With the announcement of 14 leading Japanese actors joining the cast, the highly anticipated historical action series is shaping up to be a gripping spectacle of skill, honor, and survival.

Junichi Okada takes center stage as Shujiro Saga, a determined warrior thrust into a brutal life-or-death competition. Not only does Okada lead the cast, but he also steps into the role of action choreographer and producer for the first time, ensuring that every battle sequence delivers an authentic, adrenaline-fueled experience. He is joined by Riho Yoshioka as Shujiro’s devoted wife, Shino, and Yumia Fujisaki as Futaba Katsuki, a young girl caught in the chaos. The ensemble cast includes Kaya Kiyohara, Taichi Saotome, and Yuya Endo as Shujiro’s sworn allies, alongside Masahiro Higashide as the mysterious former ninja Kyojin Tsuge, and Shota Sometani as Kocha Kamuy, an Ainu archer.

The action intensifies with Hiroshi Tamaki portraying noble guardian Ukyo Kikuomi, Takayuki Yamada as a relentless Kyoto police officer, and Hideaki Ito as the ruthless Bukotsu Kanjiya, whose past intertwines with Shujiro’s fate. Meanwhile, Wataru Ichinose, Jyo Kairi, Yasushi Fuchikami, and Kazunari Ninomiya round out the formidable roster, each character wielding distinct weapons and fighting styles that will set the stage for a high-stakes battle like no other.

Inspired by Shogo Imamura’s award-winning Ikusagami novel, Last Samurai Standing takes viewers to the Meiji era, a time when the samurai way of life was fading into history. At Tenryuji Temple in Kyoto, 292 warriors gather under the moonlit sky, lured by the promise of a life-changing cash prize. The rules are as simple as they are deadly: to win, one must steal wooden tags from fellow fighters and survive the journey to Tokyo. Shujiro Saga steps into this ruthless contest with a single mission—to save his ailing wife and child.

A first look at the series showcases Shujiro poised for battle at Tenryuji Temple, setting the tone for an electrifying story of loyalty, sacrifice, and the ultimate fight for survival. With a blend of historical drama and high-octane action, Last Samurai Standing is set to redefine the samurai genre when it premieres this November, exclusively on Netflix.
