As The Night Agent gears up for its highly anticipated third season, Netflix is solidifying its ensemble. Deadline exclusively revealed that Fola Evans-Akingbola, Ward Horton, and Albert Jones have all been promoted to series regulars for the upcoming season of the action thriller.
Evans-Akingbola, who portrays Secret Service agent Chelsea Arrington, returns to a prominent role after a brief cameo in Season 2. The actress was a fan favorite in the debut season, where she originally held series regular status. Creator and showrunner Shawn Ryan recently confirmed her return, hinting at a larger presence for her character this time around.
Horton, who plays Governor Richard Hagan, is stepping into the spotlight following the explosive Season 2 finale. With his character poised to become the next President, Hagan’s ascent is expected to bring new layers of tension to the series. Meanwhile, Jones’s character, Deputy Director Aiden Mosely, is also set to take on a bigger role as the drama unfolds.
Season 3 is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious yet, with filming kicking off in New York next month after an initial production stint in Istanbul late last year. Netflix has already introduced several new series regulars for the upcoming season, including Jennifer Morrison as Hagan’s wife, along with Stephen Moyer, David Lyons, and Genesis Rodriguez.
The show, based on Matthew Quirk’s novel, has been a consistent performer for Netflix. Its debut season landed in the streamer’s Most Popular TV (English) list at #7, reaching the Top 10 in 93 countries and racking up over 134 million views. While Season 2’s premiere week viewership fell short of the first season’s numbers, it still dominated the English-language TV chart from January 20-26 with 13.9 million views. The buzz even drove Season 1 back into Netflix’s Top 10 at #4 with 4.9 million views.
Ryan has made it clear that each season of The Night Agent is designed to be a standalone story, allowing for fresh characters and plotlines while maintaining some continuity. “Some carryover” can be expected in Season 3, he previously told Deadline, but his goal remains to keep each installment distinct.
The series, produced by Sony Pictures Television, has taken audiences across the globe, with past seasons filmed in Vancouver, Washington D.C., Thailand, and New York.
Evans-Akingbola, currently starring alongside Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz, and Andrew Scott in Netflix’s action-comedy Back in Action, continues to rise in Hollywood. The film has amassed around 93 million views and is expected to join Netflix’s most popular English-language films. She has also appeared in Black Mirror, Prime Video’s Upgraded, and Freeform’s Siren. She is represented by Hamilton Hodell and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
Horton, best known for his role in Annabelle, is also making waves on HBO’s The Gilded Age, where he was part of the SAG-nominated ensemble. He is repped by Amplified and Innovative Artists.
Jones, previously seen in Respect alongside Jennifer Hudson and David Fincher’s Mindhunter, is represented by SirenSong Entertainment, IAG, and Peikoff Mahan.
