Netflix has confirmed the production and ensemble cast of Show Business (working title), a gripping period drama set against the backdrop of South Korea’s entertainment industry in the 1960s and 80s. The series will follow a group of individuals navigating the ruthless world of showbiz, chasing success against all odds.
Song Hye-kyo steps into the role of Min-ja, a woman hardened by her difficult childhood. Spotting an opportunity in the Korean music scene, she throws herself into the industry with unwavering determination. Gong Yoo plays Dong-gu, her childhood friend who enters the business alongside her. “Even though he’s reckless and unpredictable, Dong-gu has a soft spot for Min-ja and listens to anything she says,” the series description teases.
Kim Seol-hyun portrays Min-hui, whose relationship with Min-ja is complicated by years of admiration and rivalry. Once an innocent follower, she eventually reveals a sharp, rebellious side. Cha Seung-won transforms into Gil-yeo, a legendary composer known for turning singers into stars. Rounding out the cast, Hanee Lee plays Yang-ja, Min-ja’s mother, an aspiring singer who refuses to let hardship crush her dream.
Penned by acclaimed screenwriter Noh Hee-gyoung and directed by Lee Yoon-jung, Show Business dives into the struggles and aspirations of those who sought the spotlight, even in dark times. More updates are expected soon as the series takes shape.
