Mindy Kaling is set to make her return to Hulu, as the streamer has officially greenlit her latest comedy series, Not Suitable for Work. The show was initially reported in April 2024 under the working title Murray Hill and was acquired by Hulu in a competitive bidding process with a script-to-series commitment.
According to the official synopsis, the series follows five ambitious twenty-somethings navigating the high-pressure world of professional success—while trying to squeeze in a personal life—amidst the glitz of Manhattan’s Murray Hill. Kaling serves as the series creator and executive producer through her Kaling International banner, with Charlie Grandy taking on showrunner duties. Howard Klein of 3 Arts Entertainment also executive produces, with Warner Bros. Television producing under Kaling and Grandy’s overall deals.
Kaling’s history with Hulu includes The Mindy Project, which found a home on the platform for its final three seasons after an initial run on Fox. She also co-created the streamer’s 2019 adaptation of Four Weddings and a Funeral. Not Suitable for Work marks another collaboration between Kaling and Grandy, who have previously teamed up on The Office, The Mindy Project, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Champions, Velma, and The Sex Lives of College Girls.
Best known for her work on The Office—both in front of the camera as Kelly Kapoor and behind the scenes as a writer and executive producer—Kaling has earned six Emmy nominations. She also shared a Tony Award win as a producer on A Strange Loop in 2022. In addition to her Hulu projects, she created Netflix’s Never Have I Ever and is producing the upcoming basketball comedy Running Point.
Kaling is represented by 3 Arts Entertainment, CAA, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole, while Grandy is repped by UTA and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
