International documentary distributor Taskovski Films has acquired global sales rights to A Quiet Love, the latest feature from acclaimed filmmaker Garry Keane, known for his work like Gaza, In the Shadow of Beirut. According to Variety exclusive the film is set to make its world premiere at Doc Edge, the Oscar-qualifying documentary festival in New Zealand.
A Quiet Love brings to screen the intimate, real-life love stories of three Deaf couples, each navigating unique challenges and profound connections. Among the narratives are a decades-long forbidden romance crossing religious lines, an LGBTQI+ couple balancing parenting in a Deaf-hearing household, and a Deaf boxer and his hearing partner wrestling with a life-changing decision.
The documentary is described as a “cinematic celebration of resilience, connection, and enduring love” — a theme echoed by Irena Taskovski, CEO and head of acquisitions at Taskovski Films.
“A Quiet Love is a timely, uplifting story of connection across divides—between Deaf and hearing communities, across religious and cultural lines, and within LGBTQI+ families,” said Taskovski.
“Perfect for Valentine’s Day, inclusion programming, or peace and reconciliation anniversaries, this Irish documentary offers universal resonance and audience engagement at a time when we all need stories of love and understanding.”
Produced by Anne Heffernan of Curious North Productions and Seán Herlihy, the project has been building buzz since it won Best Pitch at Sunny Side of the Doc two years ago.
“We’re thrilled to have Taskovski Films on board,” said Heffernan.
“From the moment we pitched A Quiet Love at Sunny Side two years ago and won Best Pitch, they were the first to say, ‘We love your film.’ It’s vital for us to work with a distributor who truly believes in the film’s message and is committed to turning inclusion from words into real action.”
The acquisition marks another major festival outing for director Garry Keane, whose previous works have premiered at Sundance and represented Ireland in the Oscars’ international feature race. With A Quiet Love, Keane turns his lens toward deeply personal terrain, offering a moving exploration of love, identity, and community through the eyes—and hands—of the Deaf world.
