Production for long-anticipated sequel of The Devil Wears Prada 2 is underway, with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci reprising their iconic roles and this time, there’s a notable new addition as well.

Kenneth Branagh, the Oscar-winning actor and filmmaker, is stepping into the franchise as Miranda Priestly’s elusive husband, confirmed Deadline. In the original 2006 film, Priestly offered only fleeting glimpses into her personal life, hinting at the unraveling of her marriage with a confession that “all is not well in the state of Denmark.” Branagh’s casting promises to bring that thread to the forefront, expanding the personal portrait of the imperious fashion editor.

The timing of the production couldn’t be more fitting. Disney has set a 1st May, 2026 release date — coinciding with a cultural moment where the fashion world is in flux, following the recent step-down of longtime Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, widely believed to be the real-life inspiration behind Weisberger’s fictional Miranda.

The sequel reportedly picks up with Miranda Priestly grappling with the decline of the print publishing industry, a crisis that may even have the power to shake the icy resolve of Runway’s queen bee. While plot specifics remain under wraps, sources say the film will explore how the ever-evolving media landscape challenges both Priestly’s power and the survival of her empire.

Also returning are Hathaway’s Andy Sachs in the role of the whip-smart assistant turned journalist and Blunt’s acid-tongued Emily, whose deadpan delivery made her a fan favorite. Tucci is also back as Nigel, Runway’s creative director with a heart and a killer sense of style.

Behind the camera too, the core creative team from the original film is reuniting as Aline Brosh McKenna, who adapted Lauren Weisberger’s bestseller for the first film, has returned as screenwriter. David Frankel, who directed the 2006 smash hit, is back as the director while Wendy Finerman, who won an Oscar for Forrest Gump, returns to produce.

Released in 2006, The Devil Wears Prada became a global phenomenon, grossing nearly $125 million in the U.S. and $326 million worldwide. It earned two Academy Award nominations including Best Actress for Streep and Best Costume Design for Patricia Field, whose fashion-forward work turned the film into a style touchstone.

With The Devil Wears Prada 2, Disney and 20th Century Studios are betting on the enduring appeal of the brand — now refreshed with timely industry commentary, fashion legacy stakes, and a legendary cast led by Streep and bolstered by Branagh.
