The 82nd Venice International Film Festival is set to open with Paolo Sorrentino’s latest work La Grazia in competition on 27th August.
As per reports, this marks a reunion with longtime collaborator Toni Servillo. The new film, whose title translates to Grace remains tightly under wraps in terms of plot. Actress Anna Ferzetti, known for Diamonds, also features in the cast.
“I am very happy that the 82nd Venice International Film Festival will open with the new and highly anticipated film by Paolo Sorrentino,” said festival director Alberto Barbera. “I like to recall that one of the most important and internationally acclaimed Italian auteurs made his debut right here at the Biennale di Venezia in 2001 with his first film, One Man Up, in my early years as the artistic director,” added Barbera.
Barbera praised Sorrentino’s enduring relationship with Venice, from showcasing episodes of The Young Pope to the Silver Lion-winning The Hand of God in 2021.
“Paolo Sorrentino’s return in competition comes with a film destined to leave its mark for its great originality and powerful relevance to the present time,” said Barbera adding that “which the audiences of the Venice Film Festival will have the pleasure of discovering on opening night.”La Grazia is written and directed by Sorrentino and produced by The Apartment (a Fremantle company), Numero 10, and PiperFilm, which will handle Italian distribution. MUBI has acquired worldwide rights outside Italy, while The Match Factory will manage international sales.
