Signature Entertainment has secured U.K. and Ireland rights to Sovereign, the gritty crime thriller starring Nick Offerman and Jacob Tremblay, reveals Deadline exclusive reports.
Marking the feature directorial debut of Christian Swegal, Sovereign centers on a volatile father-son journey, following an anti-government extremist and his young son as they crisscross the country. Loosely inspired by the real-life 2020 West Memphis police shootings, the film made its world premiere at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, drawing strong attention for its timely narrative and intense performances.
The film’s ensemble cast also includes Dennis Quaid, Megan Mullally, and Martha Plimpton, adding weight to the emotionally charged thriller.
Produced by Nick Moceri, Barbara J. McCarthy, Shelley D. Needham, Jeff Hall, Jeffrey Drader, and Maribeth Derry, Sovereign brings together a dynamic production team for Swegal’s debut outing.
Katie Wilkinson-Javes, acquisitions and development manager at Signature, negotiated the U.K. and Ireland deal with Matthew Shreder, founder and CEO of Concourse.
“Sovereign is the kind of stop-you-in-your-tracks thriller that we are always searching for at Signature,” Wilkinson-Javes told Deadline. “U.K. and Irish audiences will never look at Nick Offerman or Jacob Tremblay in the same way again later this year.”
Signature’s growing slate includes box office hits like Terrifier 3, as well as upcoming titles such as sci-fi thriller The Astronaut starring Kate Mara and Laurence Fishburne, and fantasy adventure Red Sonja led by Matilda Lutz.
A release date for Sovereign in the U.K. and Ireland is expected to be announced soon.
