There’s one less doctor in for the Season 2 of The Pitt, as per Deadline exclusive. Tracy Ifeachor, who played the quietly compelling Dr. Heather Collins in the debut season of HBO Max’s high-intensity medical drama, won’t be returning for the upcoming episodes.

Dr. Collins, a fourth-year resident navigating personal grief and professional pressure in the show’s first season, will not be part of the hospital’s next shift when the series returns. The news was initially reported by TVLine, a sister publication of Deadline.

The announcement comes just a day after Ifeachor posted a reflective message on Instagram that hinted at closure, said, “What a blessing it was to be a participant on the first season,” she wrote. “An absolute privilege to play Dr. Heather Collins in such a groundbreaking season and piece.” Notably, she made no mention of appearing in Season 2.

During her arc in the freshman season, Dr. Collins experienced a deeply emotional storyline involving a miscarriage. It was also suggested that her character shared a complicated romantic history with Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, portrayed by Noah Wyle.

Created by ER alum R. Scott Gemmill, The Pitt unfolds in near real-time, following one high-stakes 15-hour shift in the ER of a fictional Pittsburgh trauma hospital. Each episode maps an hour in Robby’s demanding day, offering a visceral look at the chaotic and morally complex world of emergency medicine in modern America.

Season 1 featured a strong ensemble cast including Wyle, Ifeachor, Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, and Shabana Azeez.

Since premiering, The Pitt has earned critical acclaim and quickly rose to become one of HBO Max’s most-watched series worldwide. It holds a 95% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and has remained a top-three title globally on the streamer.

Produced by John Wells Productions in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television, the series is helmed by executive producers R. Scott Gemmill, John Wells, Michael Hissrich, Simran Baidwan, Erin Jontow, and Wyle himself.
