Bollywood action star Vidyut Jammwal is stepping into the global spotlight with his Hollywood debut, landing the role of Dhalsim in Legendary’s upcoming live-action Street Fighter film, sources have confirmed to Deadline. The highly anticipated adaptation, based on Capcom’s iconic video game franchise, is being helmed by Bad Trip director Kitao Sakurai.

While Legendary has declined to comment on the casting, insiders reveal that Jammwal has been highly selective about his U.S. debut, waiting for the right project to make his mark. He found it in Dhalsim—a mystical, peace-loving yogi known for his fire-breathing powers and elastic limbs, first introduced in Street Fighter II in 1991. A fan favorite, Dhalsim fights not out of aggression, but to protect his family.

Jammwal joins a heavyweight ensemble already packed with global talent. The Street Fighter cast features Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, Orville Peck as Vega, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Roman Reigns as Akuma, and Hirooki Goto as E. Honda.

Plot details for the reboot remain tightly under wraps, but fans of the franchise know what to expect—brutal one-on-one martial arts showdowns orchestrated by the villainous M. Bison in a world-spanning combat tournament. Since its launch in 1987, Street Fighter has sold over 55 million units worldwide, cementing its place as one of the best-selling and most influential video game franchises in history.

Best known for leading roles in Indian hits like the Commando series and Khuda Haafiz, Jammwal is celebrated for his physical prowess and high-octane stunts. With over 22 million followers across social media platforms, he remains one of India’s most recognized action stars, now aiming to win over Western audiences as well.

Jammwal is represented by Wonder Street and Felker Levine.
