Filmmaker Robert Eggers and actor Willem Dafoe appear ready to reunite on their next cinematic venture. According to Deadline report, Dafoe is in talks to star alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Werwulf, Eggers’ upcoming horror feature for Focus Features. Lily-Rose Depp is also reportedly in discussions to join the cast.

Eggers, known for his atmospheric and myth-infused storytelling, will direct Werwulf and co-wrote the screenplay with Sjón, his collaborator on The Northman. The project is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day 2026 in North America.

The film is being produced and financed by Focus Features. Eggers and Sjón will produce alongside Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title. Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus of Maiden Voyage are attached as executive producers.

Plot details are still tightly guarded, but the title Werwulf hints at a dark tale likely rooted in folklore and mythology—territory Eggers has explored to great acclaim in films like The Witch and The Lighthouse.

Dafoe, who has become a frequent creative partner of Eggers, was last seen in A24’s The Legend of Ochi and is currently shooting Tenzing for Apple Original Films. He’ll next appear in The Man In The Basement and The Birthday Party.

Dafoe is represented by WME and Circle Management + Production.
